There are, as far as I know, two types of squat lobsters that reside in these crinoid fauna. The first is the one you see here with the black and white striped pattern while the other one is mostly dark with barely visible white stripes. This was taken in Anilao, Batangas in a dive site called Secret Bay.

Speaking of lobsters, there is a rather interesting book titled The Secret Life of Lobsters by Trevor Corson. Radiolab has done a dramatization of one of the segments and I was listening to this on the drive back to the city after this dive.

There’s a lot of controversy with the whale shark feeding practices in Oslob, Cebu. I took a trip over the weekend to Cebu to document this tourism practice.

This is an example of a rejuvenated photo of a really tiny anemone shrimp. It was probably about 2cm long and almost fully transparent. I had a tough time shooting this. I applied X PRO II with the line blur and was very generous with the top and bottom edges.

These are schooling jacks, yellow tails and barracudas from Tubbataha, Philippines. Sure looks amazing on Instagram! This is the school I’d love to go to everyday!

This is your typical reef dwelling puffer fish with white patches. The B&W effect is perfect for this particular species.

So this is a zoomed-in photo of an emperor shrimp riding on a sea slug. X-Pro Instagram filter used for the shot to highlight the intricate pattern of this particular shrimp.

“Put your hand in a crack, and you won’t get it back, that’s a Moray!”

Actually that’s false. Morays are rather shy creatures that won’t bite your fingers off unless you really provoke them.

This was taken at 20 ft depth in Tubbataha, Sulu Sea in the Philippines. I applied the Earlybird filter to give the swimming turtle that eerie but smooth effect.

Sometimes I just want shoot underwater coral and plant life patterns. It’s relatively easy and the patterns can get really interesting especially if you get close. I shoot primarily with a 60mm macro lens (Canon).

I just love how you can find really interesting critters underneath an anemone skirt. But I really hate how jumpy porcelain crabs can get as they try to hide themselves from the camera.
